With just eight days of the transfer window remaining, Leeds United are still on the hunt for that player or two to make the difference to their promotion push before February 1.

A striker has long since been a priority and the four-match suspension picked up by captain Liam Cooper may mean that another centre half is on the agenda for Thomas Christiansen before the window slams shut.

It seems that Christiansen thinks that the answers may lie at one of Leeds' major rivals for promotion, Aston Villa, who have flown up the league in recent weeks to sit in fourth place, just three points off the automatic promotion spots, according to Tuesday's printed edition of the Sun, Page 55.

Former Leeds striker Ross McCormack is currently on loan with A League outfit Melbourne City, banging in the goals but as his loan spell comes up for renewal, Christiansen is looking to pounce.

Another Villa man, Tommy Elphick, is also of interest, as part of a deal that would cost £7 million for the pair and raise Steve Bruce some much-needed funds with which to pursue his own targets.

The Verdict

This deal would be better for Villa than it would be for Leeds. Villa have been searching for sales before they can invest money themselves and £7m would go a long way for them in the next eight days.

McCormack did well for Leeds in his first spell under Simon Grayson but they need a quicker, more mobile forward at this time, for this team and McCormack just isn't that man.

Elphick would be good cover, and he has Premier League experience with Bournemouth but I wouldn't say that the pair are worth £7m between them.
