Leeds United legend Luciano Becchio has posted an image of him kissing the club crest on social media, after the Whites' play-off semi-final defeat to Derby County last night.

The Whites' promotion hopes were brought to an end in dramatic fashion at Elland Road, as Derby became the first team to lose the first leg of a Championship play-off semi-final at home and still reach the final.

Stuart Dallas had put Leeds 2-0 up on aggregate, but Derby came back, with goals from Mason Mount, Harry Wilson and a brace from Jack Marriott, to set up a final with Aston Villa at Wembley.

Becchio posted this photo on his personal Instagram story, showing him kissing the club crest during his playing days at Elland Road.

Becchio spent five years at Elland Road as a player and scored 86 goals in 219 appearances for Leeds between 2008 and 2013.

The Verdict:

Becchio was an important player for Leeds and was a fan favourite at Elland Road.

The former striker clearly still has a soft spot for his former club and would have been gutted to see them miss out on promotion last night, after such a promising season.

Becchio was part of the Leeds side that suffered defeat to Millwall in the League One play-off semi-finals in 2008-09 and would have been able to understand the disappointment the players were going through.
