Leeds United will be hoping for a big three points this afternoon when they take on Wigan Athletic at Elland Road.

The Whites can keep their grip on second place with a good three points against the relegation threatened Latics, but as is Championship football, there is every chance that a game against a team struggling at the bottom could prove to be a banana skin.

There is some concerning team news too regarding Leeds today however, with Liam Cooper potentially set to miss out through injury.

However, Leeds legend Eddie Gray has played down the potential loss of the skipper, and insisted the Whites can live without Cooper and get themselves another win on the board.

Gray backed the rest of the squad to fill in for Cooper, telling LUTV he was confident that the likes of Gaetano Berardi and even Kalvin Phillips can slot in to the back four in place of the captain.

Cooper has been an important part of the first team this season and has become a firm fan favourite with some all action displays under Marcelo Bielsa, putting to bed the struggles he had initially at Elland Road when he made the move to Yorkshire.

The Verdict

Gray is right really, Cooper won't be too big a loss for the Whites.

He is the skipper of course and important, but Berardi has proved himself more than capable, and as Gray said, Kalvin Phillips can indeed slot in there too.

It's not the worst game in the world to miss either, and it should be an easy win for Leeds today really.
