Leeds United have emerged as strong favourites to sign Andy Yiadom from Barnsley during the summer transfer window.

Yiadom is yet to agree fresh terms at Oakwell, with it looking likely that the versatile right-back will be on his way out of Barnsley following next weekend’s final game of the season.

According to reliable journalist Alan Nixon, it is Leeds that are leading the chase to sign the 26-year-old on a free during the summer.

Paul Heckingbottom, despite a poor start to life at Elland Road, looks set to be in-charge over the summer and play a part in overseeing Leeds’ recruitment.

A reunion with Yiadom seems to be on Heckingbottom’s radar, after the duo enjoyed a spell together at Barnsley over the last two years.

The 26-year-old, who plays at either right-back or left-back, was influential at Oakwell last season under Heckingbottom, helping Barnsley to a mid-table finish during their first year back in the Championship.

Again, this season, Yiadom has had a strong impact, featuring on 31 occasions in the Championship, as Barnsley aim to fight their way out of a relegation battle.

Yiadom was previously set for a move to the Premier League, with both Huddersfield Town and Swansea City keen on taking him out of Barnsley, however, a move never materialised.

The Verdict

Leeds already have a player similar to Yiadom in Gaetano Berardi, but there is little doubt that the Barnsley defender has more quality than Leeds’ current versatility man.

Yiadom is heading out of Barnsley on a free, and Leeds will do well to land his signature, as there will be a host of clubs looking to snap the 26-year-old up.

Attention at Elland Road has quickly turned to the summer transfer window, and Leeds are looking to get ahead of their rivals, which can only be a good thing.
