Leeds United have made their move to sign Matej Vydra, tabling a bid that could be worth up to £12m.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Derby County are considering Leeds’ offer, with Marcelo Bielsa looking to get Vydra to Elland Road ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

After finishing 13th last season, Leeds have appointed Bielsa, who has subsequently identified Vydra as one of his top targets.

Bielsa is looking to make four or five signings this summer, with a reported £12m on the table to lure Vydra out of the Pride Park Stadium.

The 26-year-old was impressive for the Rams last season, spearheading their promotion push under Gary Rowett in the Sky Bet Championship.

The forward scored 22 goals across all competitions, with 21 of those coming in the Championship, as Derby finished sixth and qualified for the play-offs.

However, failure to win promotion has left the Rams facing another year in the Championship and possibly having to sell Vydra to slash their wage bill.

Leeds’ bid is reportedly the only one Derby have received for Vydra, who is impressed by the vision of the Elland Road club, as well as their prospects ahead of the new Championship season.

The Verdict

This is a real show of ambition from Leeds, with Vydra a top target for Bielsa.

Of course, the fee is heavy, but Vydra is in his prime and entering the summer on the back of an outstanding year.

If Leeds can get this deal over the line it will be a major statement from the Elland Road club ahead of the new season.
