Swansea City have been knocked back with their approach to take Sam Greenwood on loan from Leeds United for the second-half of the season.

Leeds only moved to sign Greenwood back in the summer transfer window, with the Whites parting with significant cash to land the young forward from Premier League rivals, Arsenal.

Greenwood has been a major hit for the club's under-23 side and has contributed to that group of players challenging at the top of their respective division.

A partnership with Joe Gelhardt has been thriving, with Greenwood offered his debut for the senior side as Leeds crashed out of the FA Cup at the hands of Crawley Town last month.

It's emerged from Mike McGrath at The Telegraph that Swansea were interested in signing Greenwood on loan from Leeds, but the Whites have knocked back that approach, with the journalist revealing how Marcelo Bielsa wants the 19-year-old to stick around at Thorp Arch.

Swansea currently sit second in the Championship table under Steve Cooper and are looking a good bet to challenge for automatic promotion into the Premier League.

A 3-1 win at Rotherham United over the weekend tightened their grip on a place in the top-two for now.

The Verdict

Greenwood is a really exciting young player at Leeds.

He's come in from Arsenal and made big noise in the club's academy in a matter of months.

However, Bielsa likes to keep his players close to him as he oversees their development and makes sure they are on the right tracks.

That's a blow from Swansea, as Greenwood would have offered a youthful, exciting option in attack, but this pursuit was always likely to meet a dead-end.
