Sky Bet Championship outfit Leeds United are stepping up their interest in highly-rated Southend United goalkeeper Daniel Bentley, according to the Daily Mail.
The Whites have started the 2015/16 campaign in fairly unspectacular fashion and have apparently sent scouts to watch the 22-year-old custodian in action this season.
The youngster was instrumental last season as the Shrimpers secured promotion to League One via the play-offs ,and he is a key part of boss Phil Brown’s team.
Leeds’ Championship rivals Hull City and Queens Park Rangers were both knocked back with bids in the summer although Bentley is now in the final year of his contract at Roots Hall.
Bentley is clearly destined for a big future in the game but it remains to be seen whether he will hold out until the end of the season and try to assist Southend in their quest for back-to-back promotions.
If the agile stopper keeps performing the way he is at present, it is only natural that Premier League clubs will be alerted to his availability.
Uwe Rosler’s Leeds United currently sit in 16th in the Sky Bet Championship, having accumulated 11 points from ten league games so far this season.
