Mbaye Diagne has emerged on the transfer radar of Leeds United, with the Whites said to be rivalling Nottingham Forest and Watford for the signature of the forward.

Leeds are looking to significantly strengthen their squad if they win promotion to the Premier League this season, which has pushed them in the direction of the Galatasaray attacker.

According to Turkish newspaper, Takvim, Leeds are the latest club showing an interest the 28-year-old, with Premier League, Watford, and their Championship rivals, Nottingham Forest, also keen.

Sabri Lamouchi is pushing Forest’s interest, but with Leeds banking on Premier League football next season and topping the Championship table, there’s an eagerness to strengthen ahead of a potential top-flight return.

Diagne has been a permanent Galatasaray player since January 2019 and finished the 2018/19 season with 30 goals to his name after continuing the form he showed with Kasimpasa across Istanbul. However, he’s recently had a spell on loan with Club Brugge, striking four goals in just six league appearances.

Despite links with Leeds, the report from Turkey confirms that Galatasaray are yet to receive an offer from the Whites, who are waiting to see how the current worldwide health issues impact their finances.

The Verdict

When you look at Leeds’ squad and how they’ve performed so far this season in the Championship, there’s little needs doing if Marcelo Bielsa’s side step up into the Premier League.

However, recruiting another forward feels a necessity, given their troubles in converting the hatful of chances the likes of Pablo Hernandez and Helder Costa create.

Diagne is a clinical attacker, who in the right team, could be a real success in England, whether that’s at Elland Road, The City Ground or elsewhere.
