Leeds United have been linked with a move for former Juventus and Chievo Verona winger Simone Pepe according to The Daily Express.
It appears to be Déjà vu for the West Yorkshire side as they were linked with Simone Pepe last summer as Leeds’ controversial owner Massimo Cellino is reportedly keen on signing the winger.
The situation has changed since last summer, and Pepe is no longer contracted under Chievo Verona and the 32-year-old is now available to join Leeds United on a free transfer.
It appeared that Garry Monk was looking to move away from the influx of Italian players but the rumour of Pepe to Leeds United has emerged once again.
As a vastly experienced winger, Pepe could provide invaluable knowhow and leadership on the field however it would be a risk for Leeds United to take as the Italian has never played outside of Italy.
If Leeds were to make a move for Pepe, it would suggest that Massimo Cellino still has a significant influential role in Leeds’ transfers and recruitment which has a detrimental effect and undermines Garry Monk.
It is yet to be seen if Monk will sanction a move for the Italian even if he is available at a low cost as he may have other targets, such as Kemar Roofe in mind.
Leeds United fans, how do you feel about the news? Would you like to see Simone Pepe join? Is he the calibre of signing that Leeds United should be making? Would it demonstrate that Cellino still has a significant influence, if so, is that a bad thing? Should Leeds United look elsewhere, if so, where?
