Leeds United are rivalling Newcastle United and Middlesbrough in the race to sign Coventry City midfielder Tom Bayliss, according to reports from the Sunday People (05/05, page 51).

The 20-year old has been a standout performer for the League One side this season, having played an influential role in their promotion from League Two last season.

The versatile midfielder scored six goals in all competitons for Mark Robins' men last term, and has since scored three goals and produced three assists for the Sky Blues this time around.

And after a hugely impressive season for Coventry, it is believed that Leeds, Newcastle, Brighton and Hove Albion and Middlesbrough are all looking at signing the midfielder in the summer - although it could take a lot for him to leave the Ricoh Arena.

Bayliss, signed a new four-year deal with the club in September, and has a close affinity with the Midlands club having graduated from the City academy.

Leeds, like Newcastle, may be able to offer the player Premier League football though as they look to win the upcoming play-offs.

The Verdict

It doesn't surprise me to see Bayliss being linked with clubs of this stature - he is an exceptionally gifted player who has a massive future ahead of him.

He was brilliant last season, and has since developed a real maturity in his game that has made him become a success in League One.

Leeds definitely need a player like Bayliss in their squad, and could be an another exciting young option for Marcelo Bielsa who could take the players game up another level.
