Leeds United are working on moves for attackers Ryan Kent and Eddie Nketiah but will only finalise a deal for one of them, according to journalist Beren Cross.

The Whites' discussions with Liverpool to bring Ryan Kent to Elland Road on a permanent deal are reportedly at an advanced stage, but a swoop for Arsenal's Nketiah is thought to still be on the table despite steep competition.

It is understood Leeds could benefit from director of football Victor Orta's relationship with Unai Emery when negotiating a move for Nketiah, despite Bristol City have previously emerged as frontrunners for his signature.

Leeds are seeking a replacement for forward Kemar Roofe before the transfer deadline on Thursday, with last season's 15-goal man on the verge of joining Anderlecht on a three-year deal.

Kent scored six goals in 43 appearances on the wing for Rangers last term while Nketiah was prolific for Arsenal's Under-23 side, but it is believed only one of them will seal their move to West Yorkshire.

The verdict

It will come as good news to Leeds fans that the club are pushing hard to sign an attacker before the deadline, with both Kent and Nketiah representing promising options up front.

The fact Nketiah is more of a centre-forward by trade suggests that Leeds will be more keen on signing him as Roofe's replacement, but Bielsa could also mould Kent into a central player if required.

Kent has been a long-term target for the Argentine so this will be a move he will be comfortable with, but Nketiah's performances in pre-season suggest he has a big season ahead and I think he would be prolific in the Championship.

It would also be a significant coup if Leeds could convince Arsenal to loan them Nketiah at this late stage, with other clubs seemingly more advanced in their discussions.
