Leeds United are in talks with Mbaye Diagne after making an enquiry about the Kasimpasa striker’s availability.

According to a report from Turkish Football, Leeds have expressed an interest in the striker, who will cost a reported £3.6m to lure away from Turkey.

Diagne featured on 17 occasions in the Turkish Super Lig last season for Kasimpasa, returning 12 goals and registering two assists.

The 26-year-old started his senior career with Juventus, but never made a senior appearance for the Italian giants, who sent him out on-loan on numerous occasions.

He arrived in Turkey in January 2018, bagging himself 12 goals for Kasimpasa.

The Ivorian could well be available at the right price this summer, but should negotiations between Diagne and Leeds get to a latter stage, wages could reportedly become an issue.

Previously, Bournemouth, Hull City and Reading have taken a look at Diagne.

Leeds are on the lookout for a new striker this summer, as Marcelo Bielsa looks for somebody to spearhead the attack at Elland Road in the Sky Bet Championship.

Matej Vydra of Derby had been a key target, but Leeds’ interest has reportedly cooled due to the 21-goal forward’s wage demands.

The Verdict

In recent years we’ve seen Leeds take risks like this on the likes of Caleb Ekuban and Marcus Antonsson, which hasn’t worked.

Of course, 12 goals in 17 appearances is a very good return, but there’s an element of risk by bringing somebody in from Europe, particularly when you’ve targeted someone like Vydra.

It’s hard to see this sitting well with Leeds’ supporters.
