Leeds United in pole position to secure agreement with 16-goal forward

Leeds United are reportedly leading Nottingham Forest, Norwich City and Derby County in the race to sign Leyton Orient forward Macauley Bonne, according to reports from Teamtalk.

The 23-year has been on fire for Justin Edinburgh’s O’s this term – netting 16 times in 21 appearances for the London club who currently sit at the top of the Vanarama National League.

His form for Orient hasn’t gone unnoticed – reports claim that Leeds are leading the way to sign the Zimbabwe international, who has scored an impressive 38 goals in 65 games for Orient.

Orient signed Bonne on a free transfer from League Two outfit Colchester United last season, where he came through the youth ranks for the Essex club and scored 7 goals in 75 league appearances for the U’s.

Leeds, Norwich, Forest and Derby are all competing for promotion in the Championship this term, with just six places separating table-toppers Norwich and play-off contenders Nottingham Forest.

The Verdict

It was only a matter of time before Bonne attracted interest from EFL clubs – he has been magnificent in front of goal for Orient over the last couple of years and it will cost a lot to tempt the O’s into selling their talisman.

His record in the Football League isn’t the greatest, but he seems to have turned a corner at Orient and could be a great signing for the interested teams.
