Leeds United are in pole position to land Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker on loan, according to FLW sources.
FLW understands that Steve McClaren’s Derby County are also interested in signing the highly-rated 19-year-old midfielder on loan, however Leeds are now leading the chase for the Chelsea starlet.
A move for the England youth international is most likely to happen after a manager has been implemented at Elland Road.
Since arriving at Stamford Bridge ten years ago, Baker has successfully progressed through the ranks to captain the U21 side, as well as make his senior debut.
The 19-year-old has also represented England at U17s and U19s level on several occasions.
Earlier this year, Blues boss, Jose Mourinho tipped the promising midfielder to represent the England national team ‘in a few years’.
“My conscience tells me that if Baker, Brown, and Solanke are not national team players in a few years, I should blame myself,” Mourinho said to the Daily Mail.
“They are part of a process the club started without me. In this moment, we have players who will be Chelsea players. And when they become Chelsea players, they will become England players, almost for sure.”
