It has been revealed that Rangers manager and former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is on Leeds United’s radar, should they part company with current manager Marcelo Bielsa in the near future – as per Football Insider.

Biesla’s future was left in doubt following the failure to gain promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs last campaign, and the Leeds hierarchy were harbouring concerns that the hot-headed 64-year-old may decide to depart.

As a result, they began to compile a shortlist of potential replacements at the top of which was Steven Gerrard. As it turned out, in the summer Bielsa committed to another season at Elland Road in a bid to take the club into the top division in England.

However, should Leeds fail to gain promotion and do part company with Bielsa in one way or another, they are keen on having potential candidates lined up and have been keeping tabs on Gerrard’s progress in Scotland.

After eight games, Rangers and Gerrard sit top of the Scottish Premiership whilst they also find themselves in the Europa League group stages and the Scottish League Cup semi-final. An impressive feat given the fact that Rangers had to rebuild from the bottom up over the last few years.

Meanwhile, Leeds sit fifth following away defeats to Charlton and Millwall in their last couple of games. However, Bielsa’s side remain very much in contention with only two points separating the top-six and there is still the majority of the season to play.

The Verdict

Bielsa has been a controversial figure since his arrival in Leeds, many fans admire him for his passion and tactics, yet others cite his failures last season.

Gerrard has impressed since joining Rangers but remains very unexperienced as a manager, especially compared to the likes of Bielsa.

Consequently, it is certainly a situation to keep an eye on as the season progresses and would be an eye catching event if it were to happen.
