Leeds United are 'confident' of completing a deal for a striker during the January transfer window, according to Football Insider.

The Whites are determined to add an attacker to their squad following Arsenal's decision to recall Eddie Nketiah from his loan spell at the beginning of the month.

That has left Marcelo Bielsa with just one senior striker in his squad in the shape of Patrick Bamford, meaning that he'd like to add some competition for the former Middlesbrough striker.

It's been a frustrating month for Leeds United so far who have been linked with several attackers already.

Dwight Gayle, Billy Sharp and Andre Gray have all been linked with a move to Elland Road this month, while Southampton's Che Adams is regarded as the first choice to come in.

While it remains to be seen whether a deal can be agreed for the Saints' star, it's claimed that Victor Orta is working hard behind the scenes to ensure that Bielsa's side are not left in the lurch come February.

The verdict

It's been an incredibly frustrating month so far for Leeds United.

The need for a striker is clear for all to see with the Whites struggling for form in recent weeks.

Patrick Bamford is a decent striker but certainly needs competition for his place if Leeds are to get themselves over the line in their hunt for promotion.

If a striker isn't found, you do worry about whether Marcelo Bielsa's side will have the depth to get the job done.
