Leeds manager Garry Monk has confirmed to the Yorkshire Evening Post that defender Gaetano Berardi has recovered from injury, and is set to return in United’s next game against Wigan Athletic.
The right-back has been out of action since he picked up a hamstring injury at the beginning of the campaign.
However, Monk now seems satisfied with Berardi’s fitness, with the defender playing two full matches for Leeds’ under-23 squad.
The Swiss was a key performer for the side last season and Leeds fans will hope he can regain his form and push the team towards the upper end of the table.
Berardi’s comeback won’t be completely smooth sailing, as replacement Luke Ayling has been in fine form since Berardi picked up his knock against QPR on August 7th.
Ayling’s solid performances have mirrored United’s recent upturn in form, with five victories in their last seven games.
However the side lost against Steve McClaren’s Derby County in their last fixture and will not want to lose momentum as they hope to climb the Championship table.
