Midfielder Ander Iturraspe could be open to a move to Leeds United, Spanish outlet El Desmarque have reported.

Iturraspe has spent his entire career to date with La Liga side Athletic Bilbao, making 319 appearances in all competitions for the club from the Basque region, but is set to become a free agent when his contract at the club expires in the summer.

It is now thought that Iturraspe could be open to a move to Elland Road in order to once again work with Marcelo Bielsa, who previously managed Iturraspe for just under two years at Bilbao between 2011 and 2013.

The midfielder is not expected to be short of offers, and Besoccer.com have reported that Osasuna, who won promotion to Spain's top flight this season, are also interested in signing the 30-year-old.

There were also reports last month from To10.gr that Greek side PAOK are interested in Iturraspe, but it is thought that the midfielder prefers to either remain in Spain or move to England.

The Verdict

This is a huge boost for Leeds.

Iturraspe's top flight experience and ability could be a crucial addition to Leeds' side as they compete for promotion to the Premier League next season, with his presence in the centre of the park potentially a huge asset for the Yorkshire side.

Given what he could bring to the club, the midfielder's availability as a free agent would make this something of a steal for Leeds if they can pull it off, and it would be a big confidence boost heading into next season.

If he is to join Leeds, it seems that Bielsa will once again have a significant part to play in the deal, once again underlining his importance to the club.
