Leeds United have been given the green light to bring Norwich City striker Kyle Lafferty to Elland Road, according to the Yorkshire Post.

Leeds, along with Bolton Wanderers, were interested in bringing the Northern Irishman in during the summer window, although a move never materialised. It is thought, then manager, Uwe Rosler decided against the move.

Although, game time has been hard to come by for Lafferty who has only made two appearances for Norwich City this season – both of which have been from the bench and one was in the League Cup.

Since Alex Neil was appointed by Norwich, Lafferty hasn’t been in his plans. He’s spent a spell away on loan at Rizespor but he failed to make a real impact there either.

However, Lafferty was very impressive in Northern Ireland’s Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with seven goals and an assist in his nine games.

Lafferty, who is desperate for first team football at Norwich, has spoken about a possible move.

“I’m going to have to sit down with the manager in January and have a discussion with him,” he told Yorkshire Post.

“I know that I will need to play football in the new year and going into the Euros.

“It is difficult at my club at present with not playing, but I will keep training and working away in the hope I get my chance.

“I’d love to be playing at Norwich but if I have to go out on loan or be sold to play football that might be the way it will be.

“For the Euros I want to be in the best shape of my life and need to be playing to do that.”

If Lafferty is to play first-team football it does look increasingly likely a move away from Carrow Road will be the only way to fulfil this.

Steve Evans’ side are enjoying a stint of good form on the Sky Bet Championship, having won their two previous league fixtures.

Leeds currently sit in 15th place in the division, having amassed 19 points from 16 league games this season.
