Leeds United are waiting for Manchester City’s decision as they look to secure a deal for Angus Gunn ahead of next season.

Gunn has emerged as one of Leeds’ top targets this summer, as the Whites look to add a new goalkeeper to their squad ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

However, a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post has confirmed that Leeds have now stepped up their interest in David Stockdale, Birmingham City’s goalkeeper, with Man City still making a decision on what to do with Gunn next year.

The young England goalkeeper remains a target for Leeds, but City are yet to decide if they will release Gunn on-loan ahead of next season.

Gunn spent the 2017/18 campaign on-loan away from the Etihad Stadium, as he gained his first taste of a senior campaign.

The 22-year-old featured in all 46 of Norwich City’s Championship fixtures last season, helping Daniel Farke’s side to a mid-table finish with some consistent performances.

Gunn also featured in five cup ties for the Canaries, making 51 appearances in total during his time at Carrow Road.

That spell with Norwich has helped enhance Gunn’s reputation as one of English football’s most promising goalkeepers.

The Verdict

Gunn is a better option for Leeds than Stockdale, as the 22-year-old would be perfect alongside Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

However, what Leeds can’t afford to do is wait on Man City’s decision.

A new goalkeeper arriving at Elland Road is essential this summer, and the sooner a deal is done, the better it will be for Leeds’ preparations ahead of next season.
