Leeds United full-back Leif Davis has returned to training with the first-team after he underwent surgery on an injury in January, with Ian Poveda also featuring in an LUTV glimpse at preparations for the Huddersfield Town clash.

The Whites have been struggling with injury problems this season as they push for automatic promotion under Marcelo Bielsa, as only a handful of first-team players have managed to keep themselves fully-fit throughout the season.

One player who has been one of the more recent on the treatment table is young left-back Leif Davis, who arrived from Morecambe in the summer of 2018 around the same time as Bielsa, and has been very impressive in his cameos so far.

He posted an update on his Instagram, revealing that he went under the knife for an injury that hadn’t been confirmed by the club but has now been revealed on LUTV footage as returning to training this week when he could be seen on the grass with the rest of the squad.

Another player who’s fitness has been cast into a lot of doubt recently is January signing Ian Poveda who joined the club on a permanent deal from Manchester City, but is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Whites as there are major doubts over whether he has the match-sharpness to play a good enough role under Bielsa.

The footage also showed him in amongst first-team discussions with coaches, indicating that he could be on the verge of a return to the matchday squad at the weekend.

The verdict

While these two are youth players that are on the periphery of the first-team, it is a boost to see them return to the squad before the run-in.

The Whites haven’t been fortunate with injury issues and this has led to Stuart Dallas finding his home at left-back, but at least Davis comes back to help out with their depth.

Poveda hasn’t been able to make an impact yet at Elland Road but he was clearly a signing for the future, and the footage does indicate Bielsa is eager to integrate him into the lineup soon.

The clash against Huddersfield Town will be too early for Davis to get back in the squad but this is a strong indication of Poveda’s potential involvement.
