Felix Wiedwald is set to leave Leeds United this summer, with a move back to Germany looking a real possibility for the goalkeeper.

According to BILD, Eintracht Frankfurt are keen to offer the goalkeeper a route out of Elland Road and back to the German Bundesliga, after Wiedwald endured a torrid first year in English football.

Leeds only moved to sign Wiedwald last summer, with the goalkeeper agreeing a three-year deal at Elland Road and becoming the Sky Bet Championship club’s first choice ahead of last season.

However, Wiedwald endured a difficult year in the Championship, with the goalkeeper dropped on two separate occasions.

The 28-year-old made 30 appearances across all competitions, with 28 of those coming in the Championship.

However, after losing his place in the side of a second time in March, Wiedwald didn’t feature again during the 2017/18 campaign, with Bailey Peacock-Farrell taking charge of the gloves.

Wiedwald reportedly wants a return to Germany this summer, despite having two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road.

Leeds appear happy to let Wiedwald move on, with the Whites eyeing a deal to bring Angus Gunn to Elland Road next season.

The Verdict

It’s hardly surprising that Wiedwald wants a move, as his year in the Championship has been a bit of a disaster.

The goalkeeper has been far from convincing in goal, with a move back to Germany best for both Wiedwald and Leeds.

The Whites need a consistent No.1 next season, which Wiedwald simply isn’t.
