Leeds United defender Liam Kitching has completed his move to League Two side Forest Green Rovers.

The 19-year-old has signed a three-year deal with Forest Green and becomes Mark Cooper's eighth signing of the summer.

Kitching came through the academy at Leeds, but did not make a senior appearance for the club and has spent the past couple of seasons on loan at non-league Harrogate Town.

The defender has already joined up with his new teammates at Forest Green, at the club's pre-season training camp in Devon.

Kitching can play as a left-sided centre-back or at left-back, and was a regular for Leeds' under-23 side during the 2017-18 season, before he joined Harrogate in January to gain some first-team experience.

The teenager was able to help Harrogate win promotion from the National League North that season and was a key player for them in the National League last season, helping them reach the play-offs.

Kitching could make his debut for Forest Green when they face Oldham Athletic on the opening day of the League Two season.

The Verdict

This could be a good signing for Forest Green.

Leeds have produced some very talented players over the past few years, so that's a very encouraging sign if you're a Forest Green fan.

Kitching can play as a left-sided centre-back or at left-back, so his versatility makes him very useful option for Cooper to have in his squad.

He's obviously got a lot of potential and he's done very well while on loan at Harrogate over the past couple of seasons.

The defender made 34 appearances in the National League last season and will probably feel that he's ready to make the step up to League Two.

Kitching probably wasn't going to get a chance at Elland Road next season and it's important for him to be playing regular first-team football at this stage of his career, so it makes complete sense for him to leave the club.

He should be guaranteed more game time at Forest Green and hopefully he will be able to make an impact in League Two next season.
