Leeds have recently announced that Pablo Hernandez has signed a new deal with the club, that will see him remain at Elland Road until the summer of 2022.

The Spaniard has been key to their impressive showings in recent seasons, and he'll be keen to play his part in their promotion bid under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa this term.

Leeds are currently sat third in the Championship table, and are just two points adrift of league leaders West Brom heading into the weekend's fixtures.

Hernandez already has two goals and two assists to his name this season, and will be keen to recapture the type of form that almost saw Leeds win promotion in last year's campaign.

Speaking in an interview with Leeds' official website after penning a new deal, Hernandez felt that the Whites should be playing their football in the Premier League, and is keen to fire them back into the top-flight in the near future.

"Signing this new contract with the club is an honour for me and now I will try to continue with the same work and push to help the club get back to the Premier League.

“This is a big club, not just in England, but around the world and this club deserves to play in the Premier League."

The experienced midfielder went on to admit that he would have changed his personal contribution for the team last season, if it meant they could have won promotion into the top-flight.

However, Hernandez was confident that Leeds can make a long-awaited return to the Premier League this season, and stated that he is 100% sure that this is their year.

"I think the last season was the most complete season for me with 12 goals and 12 assists, but we lost the chance to go to the Premier League and I would change this for the team to be in the Premier League, but I was happy with my personal performance last season.

"We want to improve this year and achieve our target of the Premier League and I think we are going in the right way and I am 100 per cent sure and convinced that this is the year this club will get back to the Premier League."

Hernandez and his Leeds team-mates take on Luton Town this weekend in their first game back after the international break, where they'll be looking to come away from the game with another win to their name.

The Verdict:

Leeds fans will love his aims for the remainder of this year's campaign.

I was really surprised that they didn't win promotion into the Premier League last season, but I definitely think this is their best chance to return to the top-flight, with the promotion race being wide open this term.

Hernandez will be key to this, and if he can replicate the performances he put in last season, then I see no reason why Leeds won't win promotion back into the Premier League.
