Leeds United ran out convincing 4-0 winners over Middlesbrough at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

Goals from Patrick Bamford, Helder Costa and a brace from Mateusz Klich saw the Whites claim a deserved three points on the day as they moved to the top of the Championship table.

But it was an unhappy return for former Leeds defender Jonathan Woodgate, as his side slipped to their eighth defeat of this year's campaign.

Boro are now sat 20th in the Championship table and will be keen to get back to winning ways at the earliest of opportunities to pull away from the bottom three.

Speaking in a post-match press conference, Woodgate admitted that he is hoping to see his former side win promotion to the Premier League this season under Marcelo Bielsa's guidance.

Leeds are certainly in a good position to win promotion into the top-flight this term, and will be keen to pull away from the promotion-chasing pack over the hectic festive period, which could make or break their season.

The Whites are next in action when they take on Huddersfield Town at the weekend, whilst Woodgate's Middlesbrough side face Charlton Athletic at the Riverside.

The Verdict:

The Elland Road faithful will absolutely love this statement from Woodgate.

They've certainly got a good chance of winning promotion to the Premier League this season, and if they can continue to build on these impressive recent showings, then I can't see many teams stopping them from making a long-awaited return to the top-flight.

Woodgate will be fearing for his future at Middlesbrough though, as they looked seriously out of their depth at this moment in time, as we head towards a crucial stage of this year's campaign.
