The rivalry between Leeds United and Manchester United may have been diluted a bit in recent years, but for most supporters it's burning as bright as ever.

The two sides have a fierce history in the game, and while they might be a division apart at the moment, the Red Devils are still regarded as Leeds' fiercest rivals.

Most fans of the Yorkshire side are partial to a light-hearted dig at the Premier League giants, and that is the case for one of their highest profile supporters.

Liam Gallagher may be a Manchester City supporter originally, but he has adopted Leeds as his second side.

The former Oasis frontman has never been one to bite his tongue and the popular singer couldn't resist taking aim with a potshot at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Man United favourite Eric Cantona had taken to social media to name Gallagher's track 'Once' as he song of the year.

Gallagher reposted this with the comment 'I always knew you were cool, c'mon you know," - but he wasn't finished there.

Cantona famously played for Leeds United before joining Manchester United where he enjoyed immense success as the talisman of Alex Ferguson's side in the early nineties.

But responding to a comment which asked Cantona if he'd played for a top team, Gallagher responded by saying 'Leeds United'.

The verdict

He may be a Manchester City supporter originally, but Liam Gallagher has certainly endeared himself to the supporters of his second team.

Gallagher has never been one to bite his tongue and popular sense of banter will certainly have gone down well with the supporters.

Whether Man United supporters will have enjoyed the comments, however, remains to be seen.
