Leeds United have recently been linked with a move for Chelsea defender, Jay Clarke-Salter according to a report from The Sun.

The Elland Road faithful will know that Marcelo Bielsa will have to strengthen his squad ahead of next season if they are to challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

The Whites struggled towards the end of last year's campaign, eventually losing out to Derby County in their play-off semi-final.

It will have been hugely frustrating for Leeds supporters to see their team miss out on a place in the final at Wembley, as they had been the team to beat for much of last season.

Plenty of fans will blame injuries as one of the main reasons as to why their side weren't promoted, which is a fair statement to make.

But Leeds' lack of depth in particular was a cause for concern, with some key players being ruled out for parts of the season.

Bielsa had to rely on the club's youngsters, which will have been far from ideal for the Leeds boss, as he needed experienced options in crucial games.

If Leeds were to strike a deal with Chelsea to sign Clarke-Salter on loan, then they would be getting a player with a significant amount of potential on their hands.

At the age of 21, he has many years ahead of him, and has experience of playing in England, as well as out on loan regularly.

He spent last season on loan with Dutch side, Vitesse, making 28 league appearances as they finished 5th in the Dutch top-flight.

But Clarke-Salter spent a season on loan with Sunderland back in 2018, and he will be keen to make a name for himself in England again.

Leeds could be the perfect club for him as well, as they lack depth in the centre of defence heading into next term, which will mean that Bielsa is likely to be in the market for a new defender.

Pontus Jansson's future at Elland Road seems as though it could hang in the balance, with Benfica reportedly interested in landing his signature according to Calciomercato.

But even if the Swedish international is to stay with Leeds for another season, signing Clarke-Salter should still be on Leeds' agenda before the new season gets underway.

Cooper and Jansson lacked competition last season, and Clarke-Salter would be more than capable of challenging the pair for a starting spot in Bielsa's squad.

There's every reason to be excited by this potential deal if you're a Leeds supporter, as he's a player that could certainly add something to their team as they look to return to the Premier League next term.
