Leeds United captain Liam Cooper provided a big boost to supporters on Thursday when he told BBC Radio Leeds that he has ahead of schedule of his injury return.

It is fair to say the Hull-born defender has been revitalised under Marcelo Bielsa, going from an easy scapegoat for United fans to their "Mr Dependable".

Cooper who limped off with a groin injury during the 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on 1st October, was originally meant to be out for at least six weeks.

However speaking to BBC  Radio Leeds' Adam Pope, the defender said he is "ahead of schedule as the tendon repairs in his groin injury" and that he "hopes to return sooner rather than later."

United fans will welcome the news as their side's options at the back are limited, with Gaetano Berardi deputising for Cooper.

Before United's defeat to Millwall, Cooper had only missed one league match so far for the Whites, the 3-0 victory over Stoke in August, and fans will be keen to see the Scottish international make his return to the first team.

Cooper, who is in his sixth season with the Whites, missed a portion of last season due to a knee injury he picked up in United's 1-0 against Sheffield United in December.

In March, Cooper made his 150th appearance for the club in the 1-0 at Bristol City in March and at the end of the month was named in both the EFL Championship Team of the Season and EFL Team of the Season.

Cooper's return couldn't come soon enough for United fans as the side enter a busy period following the international break and Gaetano Berardi has seemed to have divided Leeds fans' opinions on whether the Swiss is adequate cover in Cooper's absence.

The 28-year old has formed a solid partnership with on-loan defender Ben White so far this season and United fans will be keen to see the pair at the back together soon.

Cooper, provides are calming presence to the United back-line and really displays his leadership qualities on the pitch and throughout the team.

His love and determination for his side is on show in the Amazon Prime documentary "Take Us Home: Leeds United" and these characteristics are evident to the fans when Cooper is on the pitch.

Although unlikely to feature again this month, fans will be hoping Cooper's injury update rings true as United enter a busy period of games between now and the end of November.

United entertain Birmingham City on Saturday before tough trips to Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday next week, before five games in four weeks over November, ahead of a busy December.

Leeds fans will be delighted if Cooper was to return to the fold ahead of the six week schedule as he provides so much resilience, determination and passion to their side and will be one of the players they look to, to drag the side through the busier periods of the season.
