Claims that Leeds United were interested in approaching Filippo Inzaghi to become the manager at Elland Road are not true.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Italian publication Corriere di Bologna reported that the suggestion that Leeds United were looking to secure Inzaghi as their new head coach are false.

The former Italy striker currently manages Serie B side Venezia, and has been linked with the role of manager job at Elland Road.

Current Paul Heckingbottom is still under contract as manager of Leeds United, but has been subject to a wide range of speculation over his future at the club.

The report by Corriere di Bologna claimed that Venezia had received a “request from Leeds (England), but the Yorkshire Evening Post claims that Inzaghi has never been in contention for the role.

The former Juventus and Milan forward was in charge of Milan for the 2014/15 season, and has guided his current side to a spot in the Serie B play-offs.

The Verdict

The appointment of Filippo Inzaghi would be an interesting one. With a real eye for attacking football, he may just be able to inject a bit of fight and belief into the current Leeds United squad.

But with claims that there has never been an approach, or even interest, it would seem the deal will not be taking place.

Leeds United had another mid-table finish last season, and something does need to change at Elland Road, but perhaps not another manager.
