Cagliari are considering a late move to sign Abel Hernandez from under Leeds United’s nose.

According to the Mirror’s live transfer blog (20/06, 16:02), Serie A outfit, Cagliari, are considering a late move for Hernandez, along with Cardiff City, who are preparing for their Premier League return.

The 27-year-old will leave Hull City this summer as a free agent, having failed to agree fresh terms with the Tigers after a four-year stay at the KCOM Stadium.

There has been plenty of interest in the Uruguayan, with Leeds in talks to sign the striker for some time now.

The same Mirror report has confirmed that Leeds are ready to sign off a deal, despite the late interest from elsewhere.

Marcelo Bielsa, appointed at Elland Road last week, is happy to give his new employers the green light to complete a deal, as Cagliari and Cardiff consider swooping.

Hernandez has scored 39 goals during his time with Hull, proving to be particularly prolific in the Championship.

The striker’s goals led Hull to promotion during the 2015/16 campaign, whilst last year, despite an injury-hit campaign, Hernandez returned eight goals in 10 appearances.

The Verdict

Interest in Hernandez was to be expected, with Leeds delaying a deal until Bielsa’s arrival.

If Leeds miss out on the striker now, they only have themselves to blame, as they have left the door open for both Cagliari and Cardiff.

However, Bielsa’s arrival does seem to have sparked Leeds into action, with them needing to get Hernandez’s signature over the line as soon as possible.
