Leeds United are pursuing a deal to sign Yosuke Ideguchi in the January transfer window, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post’s, Phil Hay.

Ideguchi, a Japanese international, is on Leeds’ radar and is the reported “surprise from Asia” that Victor Orta spoke about last week in a question and answer session with the club.

The 21-year-old has featured for the senior Japanese national side, and currently plays for Gamba Osaka in the J-League.

The central midfielder has three goals and nine assists to his name in 2017, having made 29 appearances across all competitions for Osaka.

Leeds are looking to strike a deal for January, with the Whites already making plans for the winter transfer window after a hugely successful summer.

The reshaped Sky Bet Championship outfit have enjoyed a magnificent start to the 2017/18 campaign, flourishing under Thomas Christiansen and remaining unbeaten across all competitions.

Christiansen’s side are currently second in the Championship table after six league fixtures, with a 5-0 victory over Burton Albion on Saturday propelling the Whites into the automatic promotion places.

A brace from debutant Pierre-Michel Lasogga, plus goals from Kalvin Phillips, Pablo Hernandez and Kemar Roofe handed Leeds three points at Elland Road against a struggling Burton.

The Verdict

Not for the first time in 2017, the Whites are linked with a player we know very little about.

However, Leeds’ recruitment since the appointment of Orta earlier this summer has been excellent, with the club’s new arrivals all looking good value for money at the start of the season.

Ideguchi clearly has potential, and with the midfielder already a full international at such a young age, he has a bright future ahead of him.

An ever improving Leeds could be the perfect place for the 21-year-old to continue his development.
