Leeds United are interested in PSV Eindhoven starlet Justin Lonwijk.

The 19-year-old midfielder is a target for the Championship outfit, according to Italian media outlet, TUTTOmercatoWeb.

Marcelo Bielsa is credited with having an interest in the young playmaker who has been a regular for Jong PSV – the development side of the Eredivisie giants.

Lonwijk is out of contract in the summer, and that could see the midfielder head to the Elland Road on a free transfer – with Premier League football still a real possibility should he join.

Eintracht Frankfurt have already made contact with Lonwijk, according to the report, while Roma are in the initial stages of approaching the attacking midfielder, too.

Bielsa is monitoring his situation with the hope he would prefer a move to England over Germany or Italy.

As Lonwijk is playing aboard, a pre-contract could be agreed now for the summer by all the interested parties, with PSV hopeful they can persuade the youngster to stay at the Philips Stadion.

The verdict

The midfielder is yet to make his professional debut for the first-team for PSV but is showing plenty of promise for the academy side.

He is a regular for Jong PSV who operate in the league before – and are currently fifth – and his performances have alerted Leeds, as well as some competition from some recognised European clubs.

It would be a typical Bielsa signing if he were to join and could thrive in the Championship, or even in the Premier League if they second-tier side are promoted at the end of the season.
