Pennington is no stranger to Elland Road having played 24 times on loan last season, but Leeds face competition from other Championship clubs, thought to included Bolton Wanderers.

His time at Leeds was blighted by an injury picked up on the opening day of the season, but recently any hopes of a permanent deal were scuppered when Everton offered him a new deal until 2021.

With first team chances limited at Goodison, but them seemingly showing faith in his ability, another loan spell seems to be the right move and Leeds are now at the head of that queue.

23-year old Pennington has also enjoyed spells with Tranmere, Coventry and Walsall in his short career and now looks set to add a second stint with Leeds to that growing list.

The transfer window for closes next Thursday for permanent deals, but loan deals are permitted until August 31.

The Verdict

With the report stating Wigan join Bolton and Leeds in the queue for Pennington, it might be fair to say that the Whites aside, he is aiming for a mid-table Championship side.

Reception to this will be mixed, Pennington didn't have a brilliant time last season and at 23, some fans might think any potential he was going to show should have manifested itself into something else by now.
