Leeds United have been offered the chance to sign John Ruddy as he prepares to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.

The 33-year-old is coming towards of the end of a three-year spell at Molineux after leaving Norwich City in 2017 and Wolves are not going to offer him a new deal.

That's according to Football Insider, who say that the once-capped England international will be offered to the Whites and the report indicates that his Premier League experience could appeal to Marcelo Bielsa, who may want a new keeper ahead of next season.

There are long-term doubts over Kiko Casilla's future, with the Spaniard unconvincing since joining and he is currently serving a lengthy ban for using racist language towards Jonathan Leko earlier in the season.

Illan Meslier is the current number one and whilst he is highly-rated, it would be a big risk to go into a top-flight season with the 20-year-old as the main man.

As for Ruddy, he starred as Wolves won promotion from the Championship under Nuno Espirito Santo but he has been second-choice since Rui Patricio arrived. Aside from one Premier League fixture last season, Ruddy's only games have come in domestic cup competitions.

The verdict

This would be a decent signing for Leeds as it's important to bring in players who know what it's like to play at the top level, with Ruddy playing regularly for Norwich in the past, and he is still a good keeper, with the excellent Patricio the only reason he isn't involved now.

However, you would understand if the Whites fans were expecting a bigger name to come in for what is a crucial position.

So, it's good to have an option like Ruddy but you would expect him to be down the list of options. Either way, it seems likely a keeper will come in providing Bielsa's men win promotion.
