A transfer update from the Yorkshire Evening Post’s, Phil Hay, has revealed that Leeds United are closing in on the signing of Laurens De Bock, although a fee still needs to be agreed between the Whites and Club Brugge.

Leeds are in the market for a left-back this month, and De Bock is on their radar, with the 25-year-old seemingly edging closer to a move to Elland Road from the Belgian top-tier.

Hay has revealed that Leeds are edging closer to a move, quoting reports from Belgium that De Bock is set to leave Club Brugge’s winter training camp to undergo his medical at Elland Road.

De Bock has a wealth of experience, and has featured on 177 occasions for Club Brugge during his time with the club, as well as representing Belgium at various youth levels earlier in his career.

Thomas Christiansen has used Gaetano Berardi, Vurnon Anita and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson at left-back so far this season, but with the latter, on-loan from Manchester United, failing to make an impact, Leeds have placed faith in Berardi, who is more commonly known as a right-back.

Berardi has played the bulk of his 18 Championship appearances this season at left-back, helping Leeds to sixth.

The Verdict

Left-back is an area that needs strengthening this month at Elland Road, and Leeds’ supporters will be pleased to see there is some development at an early stage of the window.

De Bock has no experience in English football, but will be bringing an impressive reputation to the Championship, and Leeds’ supporters will hope the 25-year-old can have a similar impact at Elland Road to the likes of Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski, the club's more impressive foreign arrivals.

This could be an impressive addition to Christiansen’s squad.
