Leeds United edging closer to appointing former PL manager as their new boss

Leeds United appear set to appoint Aitor Karanka as their new manager, according to The Sun.

Leeds are searching for a new manager since they were hit with a blow last week when Garry Monk decided to resign from his post amid uncertainty about the length of a proposed contract extension.

Since then, Aitor Karanka has been one of the most frequently mentioned names in Leeds United’s hunt for a new manager with Walter Mazzarri and Claudio Ranieri also mentioned.

Karanka has experience of winning promotion from the Championship, which will be Leeds’ ambition next season.

The Spaniard took Middlesbrough up via automatic promotion in 2015/16 but could not prevent them getting relegated straight back to the second tier.

After appointing Karanka’s friend Victor Orta as their new Director of Football, Leeds United look likely to offer Karanka the manager’s job.

The 43-year-old worked with Orta at Middlesbrough and is closing in on a reunion with him at Elland Road.
