Leeds United and Derby County are set to rival Premier League duo Brighton and Sheffield United for Bristol City's Josh Brownhill, Sky Sports have reported.

Brownhill has been a stand out player for the Robins in recent years, and 132 appearances in all competitions for the Ashton Gate side since joining from Preston in the summer of 2016.

Those performances now appear to have caught the attention from elsewhere, with Sky Sports' Transfer Blog (07/06,09:56AM) reporting that Sheffield United, Brighton, Leeds and Derby are all interested in the midfielder.

Having finished 17th in the top flight last season, Brighton will be hoping to avoid another relegation dogfight next season, as will Sheffield United following their promotion to the Premier League last season.

Derby and Leeds meanwhile will both be looking to join them in the top flight in 12 months time, after missing out on promotion via the play-offs last month.

It was recently reported by The Daily Mirror that Leeds have ended their interest in a move for Brownhill's Bristol City teammate Callum O'Dowda.

Brownhill himself has two years remaining on his contract at Ashton Gate, meaning it will likely take a sizeable fee to prise him away from Bristol City.

The verdict

This will be a big worry for Bristol City.

There is a long time left in the transfer window yet, and Brownhill may well be tempted by the prospect of a move to the Premier League, although the Robins will surely not want to let one of their key men go cheaply.

Brownhill has been impressing at Ashton Gate for some time now, and I'm a bit surprised that it has taken as long as it has for interest in Brownhill to arise from elsewhere.
