Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Tyler Roberts has suffered a further injury setback.

The 20-year-old missed last Saturday's 3-1 victory over Bristol City after a pre-season problem and is now set for a prolonged period on the sidelines.

According to BBC Sport journalist Adam Pope, Roberts' return is reportedly hard to ascertain as he has picked up another injury after his knee was drained of fluid.

The centre-forward, who can also operate as a midfielder as well as a winger, missed last season's play-offs due to an injury and thus was forced to watch on as Leeds crashed out of the competition at the hands of Derby County.

Speaking about Roberts' current situation to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Bielsa said: "Tyler Roberts is a very important player for us.

"He's an offensive player with very clear abilities.

"We are missing him.

"We'd like him to be without injuries, we'd like to have him now with us.

"Now he has another injury and we must help him recover."

The Verdict

When you consider that Roberts had started to make a real impression for Leeds during the second-half of the previous campaign, this latest setback is unquestionably bad news.

Whereas Bielsa does have a plethora of options to choose from in the wide areas and has bolstered his strike-force by signing Eddie Nketiah on loan from Arsenal, he would have been wanting to call upon the Wales international during the opening months of the season.

Yet with the timeline currently unclear in terms of when Roberts will be back in action, the club will have to now have to cope in his absence.

For Roberts' sake, he will hoping to make a return to training as soon as possible as there is a chance that he could end up falling down the pecking order at Leeds if his team-mates hit the ground running in the Championship.
