Gaetano Berardi is set to miss Leeds' game against Rotherham this weekend, after scans have alleviated fears that he could suffer another setback in his return from injury.

The Yorkshire Evening Post confirmed the news on Wednesday morning, and this news couldn't have come at a worse time.

Pontus Jansson is ruled out of this weekend's game against the Millers through suspension, and Berardi was in line to replace him, before picking up an injury in an under 23's game on Monday.

Kalvin Phillips or Aapo Halme are expected to replace Jansson in the starting XI for this weekend, but Berardi's latest setback will be a huge blow for Marcelo Bielsa' side.

Bielsa would have been hoping that the Italian would come through their game against Southampton in midweek unscathed, but he was withdrawn shortly before half time with a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury.

Berardi underwent tests on Tuesday to find out the extent of his latest setback, and is expected to miss Leeds' game against relegation threatened, Rotherham as he awaits the verdict on his injury.

The Verdict:

This is a frustrating update for Leeds ahead of their game against Rotherham this weekend.

Berardi's potential return would have been timed perfectly with Pontus Jansson being suspended, so Bielsa will have to rely on a youngster to fill that void this weekend.

The Leeds boss will be hoping that Berardi can return at the earliest of opportunities so that he can help play his part in the Whites' promotion bid this season.
