Leeds United and David Stockdale are a distance apart on wages, as the Whites look to source more goalkeeping options this summer.

With Felix Wiedwald looking set to move on this summer, Leeds have shown an interest in Stockdale, who is available from Birmingham City.

However, a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post has claimed that Leeds and Stockdale are a distance apart on agreeing a wage for the goalkeeper.

Leeds’ goalkeeping problems have haunted them over the last 12 months, with Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan both disappointing at Elland Road.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell, an academy product, steadied the ship during the final third of the season, but Leeds are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper to come in and challenge this summer.

Stockdale is one option they’ve considered, with Angus Gunn another.

Gunn is part of Man City’s squad, but spent last season on-loan with Norwich City in the Championship, where he was ever-present.

Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds’ new head-coach, could use his excellent relationship with Pep Guardiola in Leeds’ quest to lure Gunn out of the Etihad Stadium next season.

The Verdict

Stockdale is a good Championship goalkeeper, and this is obviously a blow as Leeds try to source Wiedwald’s replacement, but they shouldn’t put too much effort into signing Stockdale.

Gunn would be a better option for Leeds, as working alongside Peacock-Farrell, the two would push each other.

Goalkeeper is an area that needs sorting at Elland Road, but paying over the odds for Stockdale wouldn’t be wise.
