According to a report in the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United will have to shell out £8.5m to secure the service of Alfonso Pedraza on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

However, a permanent deal will reportedly only go through if the Whites are to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Pedraza joined the Whites on transfer deadline-day on-loan from Villarreal, until the end of the current campaign, with the deal having a clause stating if Garry Monk’s side are to gain promotion, the winger must be signed.

If Leeds were to pay the £8.5m to secure a deal for Pedraza, it would be the club’s most expensive signing since 2001, when they bought Robbie Fowler from Liverpool.

Spanish football writer, Pablo Duran, told the YEP he was surprised to see Villarreal willing to let such a “great talent” potentially leave the club during the summer transfer window.

Pedraza, a Spanish under-21 international, made his Leeds debut in the West Yorkshire Derby with Huddersfield Town on Sunday, where the Whites suffered a 2-1 defeat.

The winger came off the bench in the 62nd minute, replacing Souleymane Doukara and almost scored with one of his first touches.

Leeds face Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City at Elland Road this Saturday, where Monk could be tempted to hand Pedraza his full debut.

The Whites are currently fifth in the Sky Bet Championship, trailing the automatic promotion places by just seven points.
