Amid reported interest from Leeds United, Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara is in line for new contract at Ibrox, according to the Scotsman.

Leeds have been admirers of the midfielder this season after a dazzling start to life under Steven Gerrard and sent scouts to observe the Finland international in Ranger’s 2-0 win over Porto recently in the Europa League, as per Football Insider.

Kamara joined the Scottish giants this summer for the modest reported fee of £50,000 after impressing at Dundee the season before. Kamara started his career in England with Arsenal but looked to reignite his career in Scotland after failing to make an impression at the North London club, leaving in 2017.

Steven Gerrard’s club now value the midfielder at above £8million as teams begin to circle for his signature, with one of those clubs being Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United.

The valuation has been slapped on the player in an attempt to ward off any potential interest, but the club are seemingly going one further to ensure he remains at the Ibrox, despite only signing on a four-and-a-half-year deal in January last season.

The Scotsman is reporting that Rangers are set to offer the midfielder a new contract to deter any bids from the Elland Road outfit in the summer. When asked about the player’s current situation, Gerrard had this to say: "We haven't heard of any interest down south, we've read tons about it though, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was interest in Glen Kamara because he's an outstanding footballer.

"He's been outstanding since he walked in the door. Sometimes I still have to pinch myself for how we got him and what we got him for. Glen is doing fine. He got a real strong contract when he came here from Dundee.

"He's in good form and playing well. The message for Glen and the other players is we always reward our players for consistent performances over a long period of time. Glen will be treated no different.

"All he needs to worry about is bringing success back to the club and I'm sure he will be well looked after."

The Verdict

Rangers will certainly do all they can to convince Kamara not to leave the club as he is a vital part to Gerrard’s team as they look to end the long wait for a title, but there is no doubt that Leeds’ interest is not the end of it, as many clubs will be keen before long.

For Kamara, he must just focus on his Rangers performances for the foreseeable future, ensuring that the interest is justified by continuing his fine form for the Glasgow giants.
