Patrick Bamford is still being assessed as Leeds United look to get to the bottom of the injury the striker picked up in an under-23 fixture last week.

Leeds gave Bamford a chance to impress in the club’s under-23s on Friday, with the 25-year-old scoring in a 5-0 victory over Bristol City.

However, Bamford picked up a knee injury during the first-half and was replaced by Ryan Edmondson.

Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post has answered a supporter on Twitter who asked for an update on Bamford, with the reliable journalist confirming that Leeds are continuing to asses the striker.

Leeds moved to sign Bamford in a high-profile transfer over the summer, with the striker arriving at Elland Road from Middlesbrough.

However, Marcelo Bielsa hasn’t handed Bamford a start yet in the Championship, with his only appearance in the starting line-up coming in the League Cup.

Kemar Roofe has been preferred in the lone striker role, with the forward repaying Bielsa’s show of faith.

The 25-year-old has made six appearances in the Championship, returning an impressive four goals and also registering two assists.

Leeds are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Millwall at The Den.

The Verdict

This is a worrying wait for Leeds, who can’t afford too many injuries.

Bamford hasn’t been starting games, but his presence on the bench appears to be driving Roofe on, and without him in the squad, Leeds look considerably weaker.

The Whites will be hoping for good news before the week is done.
