Leeds United are interested in signing Reece Oxford on loan from West Ham United, The Yorkshire Post reports.

With Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson missing the midweek draw with Swansea City due to injury, Leeds are looking light in central defence.

The Whites had to pair two natural right-backs, Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling, against the Swans with their only other option being young Conor Shaughnessy.

Oxford would provide defensive cover and the youngster is also comfortable in defensive midfield.

The talented teenager burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old, turning in a man of the match display against Arsenal.

But since then, the 19-year-old has only played eight Premier League games for the Hammers and 17 in all competitions.

The England under-20 international, who has captained his country at youth level, spent last season on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach and has also played for Reading on loan in the Championship.

Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Oxford is a physical presence in the air but with Fabian Balbuena, Angelo Ogbonna, Declan Rice and Issa Diop blocking his route to the first-team, a loan spell could be beneficial.

The Verdict

Oxford would be the perfect signing for Leeds.

Cover in central defence is desperately needed and the towering young defender has a point to prove.

With first-team chances hard to come by at West Ham, the defensive starlet would thrive for Marcelo Bielsa in a ball-playing centre-half role.
