Leeds United have confirmed that they will appeal the red card given to Gaetano Berardi this weekend.

The Whites lost out at Millwall, thanks in part to the Swiss defender being given his marching orders just 15 minutes into the game, but the club has indeed confirmed they will launch an appeal against the decision.

Berardi's red was a bitter blow not only during the game yesterday but for the immediate future too, given that skipper and central defender Liam Cooper is set to be missing for up to six weeks with an injury.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa will be keen to avoid having to pick from the bare bones in his squad, especially after key injuries last season played a big part in ensuring the Whites missed out on promotion to the Premier League behind Sheffield United.

Berardi saw red for the eighth time in his career and will be hoping that the FA take his side after TV replays appeared to show there was little in the foul on Tom Bradshaw which led to Millwall getting a penalty and an opening goal in the game.

Leeds are already missing a host of players, with the likes of Cooper, Adam Forshaw, and Pablo Hernandez just a few of the first-team regulars missing from the action at the moment.

The Verdict

Hopefully Leeds can get a bit of luck here with Berardi, otherwise, they could be in for a nightmare few weeks.

Injuries and suspensions can make or break seasons at times and Marcelo Bielsa will hope that this isn't the case for his team already this term.

They need a fully fit and firing squad. If Berardi is missing for three games, it presents quite the headache for the Leeds gaffer.
