Leeds United have announced that young goalkeeper, Harrison Male has signed a new contract with the club to extend his stay at Elland Road.

The shot-stopper has been impressive in his outings with both the Leeds under 23's and under 18's side for much of this year's campaign.

In total, Male made five appearances for the under 23's side, whilst making two appearances for the under 18's.

Speaking in an interview with Leeds' official website, Male expressed his emotions after penning the new deal, and was evidently pleased.

"I am very proud, I’ve been at the club for 10 years now.

"It is a happy moment for me and my family to get my first professional contract here and hopefully it is the first of many.

The youngster is keen to build on his appearances for the Leeds youth teams and force his way into Marcelo Bielsa's plans in the near future.

"The vibe is good in the club, the Under-23s have been doing really well along with the Under-18s and we’ve achieved a lot over the last couple of years.

"My aim now is to continue improving and to try and hopefully one day get onto the pitch at Elland Road and start a game for the first team."

Marcelo Bielsa has already shown that he's willing to hand youngsters a chance, and the goalkeeper could be knocking on the Leeds boss' door sooner rather than later, with Kiko Casilla struggling for form towards the end of Leeds' season.

The Verdict:

He's a player with a bright future ahead of him.

Male has been impressive in the Leeds youth teams this season, and it would have been a no-brainer for the club to offer him a new deal.

Marcelo Bielsa has shown that he's not afraid to give the clubs young players a chance in the first-team, and Male could be the next one we see in the future ahead of the 2019/2020 season.
