Gaetano Berardi will be available to Leeds United when they host Birmingham City on October 19th after winning his red-card appeal following a dismissal against Millwall on Saturday.

Leeds were left furious and down to 10 men on Saturday at the Den when Berardi was adjudged to have caught Tom Bradshaw when the striker was breaking into the area.

The clash resulted in a penalty, red-card and eventually a goal, with Jed Wallace converting from the spot.

Obviously, Leeds faced an uphill battle then, losing 2-1 after a spirited second-half performance.

Now, the club have confirmed that Berardi’s ban has been overturned, citing wrongful dismissal.

That means he’s available to return to the centre of defence when Leeds are next in action on October 19th, with Birmingham City the visitors at Elland Road.

Liam Cooper is currently on the sidelines with injury, which means that Berardi is the first-choice candidate to step into the heart of defence alongside Brighton and Hove Albion loanee, Ben White.

Defeat at Millwall saw Leeds slide to fifth in the Championship table, with the loss their third of the current campaign.

The Verdict

Justice might be done in terms of Berardi’s ban, but Leeds will still be disappointed with how the incident came about.

It cost them points on the afternoon, with the general feeling that Leeds were the better side at Millwall, even with 10 men.

However, there’s little point dwelling on the incident, and Leeds must now look ahead to Birmingham, with Berardi available.
