Leeds United have confirmed they will face fierce rivals Manchester United in Australia as part of their pre-season preparations for the 2019/20 season.

Reports emerged last week suggesting the Whites were set to face the Red Devils and the club confirmed the news on their website this evening.

It will be the first team the two sides have met since 2011, when the Premier League side, then managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, ran out 3-0 winners at Elland Road.

Yet, it's a fixture that Leeds supporters will remember fondly as a year prior to that the Yorkshire side secured a memorable FA Cup win at Old Trafford as a League One side.

CEO Angus Kinnear told the official site how pleased he was to confirm the details for the games, which takes place in Perth on Wednesday 17 July.

"We are delighted to confirm the news about our exciting trip to Perth next summer with our fanbase.

"The trip, including the game against long-standing rivals Manchester United and some more fixtures still to be announced, will be a fantastic part of our centenary season and it is expected to attract thousands of visitors."

Marcelo Bielsa's men are also set to play another game whilst on their tour, although the details of that hasn't been announced.

The Verdict

This is very exciting news for Leeds fans and it's fair to say this will generate a lot more interest than a standard friendly.

As well as bringing the club extra publicity and attention, it will also be a big test for the players.

And, everyone connected with Leeds will be hoping it's a Premier League fixture anyway by the time it comes around to it.
