Leeds United are confident of winning the race to sign Shrewsbury Town’s Jon Nolan in the summer transfer window.

Eastern Daily Press’ David Freezer (@davefreezer) has revealed that reports are indicating that Leeds are confident of winning the race to sign Nolan, who has enjoyed a fine season in Sky Bet League One with Shrewsbury.

Nolan is attracting interest from Norwich City, as well as a host of other Championship clubs.

The 25-year-old has nine goals to his name for Shrewsbury this season, along with a number of assists, with the midfielder playing a key role for Paul Hurst’s side in their quest for promotion, making 49 appearances across all competitions.

Shrewsbury currently sit third in the League One table, well in the hunt for promotion after a fine year.

Hurst’s side are trailing Wigan Athletic and Blackburn Rovers, who look in control of the race for automatic promotion.

Nolan featured for 90 minutes on Thursday evening, as Shrewsbury were held to a goalless draw with Bradford City at Valley Parade.

Previously, the midfielder has been linked with a move to Sunderland, with Chris Coleman scouting Nolan earlier in the season.

The Verdict

Nolan’s form in League One this season has been superb, with the midfielder a driving force behind Shrewsbury’s success.

The 25-year-old’s star is clearly rising, with Championship clubs taking note of his form under Hurst.

Leeds need a summer of shrewd recruitment, with domestic players surely going to be targeted.

A player like Nolan, who brings goals from midfield, would be a welcome addition at Elland Road.
