Leeds United are edging closer to reaching an agreement with Mateusz Klich over a new contract with the Yorkshire-based club according to Football Insider.

The report claims that Leeds have offered the Polish international a new deal, which he is reportedly keen to sign in the near future.

Klich has previously been attracting interest from Burnley in the Premier League (according to the Daily Mail), although their interest could all but end if he extended his stay at Elland Road.

The midfielder has been a key member of Marcelo Bielsa's side in recent seasons, and will have been disappointed as Leeds missed out on promotion to the top-flight last season, after being beaten by Derby County in their play-off semi-final.

Klich has shown an eye for goal in a Leeds shirt since coming into the side, as he scored ten goals for Bielsa's men last term.

With him in the side, it means that Kalvin Phillips can occupy the CDM role, which is something that benefits Leeds, who have looked defensively frail at times.

Football Insider have also reported that Klich is set for a considerable wage hike, which is certainly justified after his recent performances.

Leeds will be hoping to get back to winning ways in their league campaign this weekend when they take on Charlton Athletic in what is set to be a potentially tough test for Bielsa's side.

The Verdict:

This is a promising update to hear for the Elland Road faithful.

Klich has been a key member of their squad in recent seasons, and is the type of player that Marcelo Bielsa should be looking at building his squad around.

It'll be interesting to see if Leeds can hold on to him next season though, especially if the Whites aren't to make a long-awaited return to the Premier League.
